Why should you  monitor your teen’s IM account?

Is your teen secretive about his Internet activities?  Does the computer screen mysteriously go blank when you walk by?  FYI… that’s not a technical problem.  It probably means that your teen doesn’t want you to see what he is doing online, which should be an open invitation for you to ask what he is surfing or who she is talking to.  Teens prefer IM’ing to regular e-mail these days, and if they are sending or receiving inappropriate information online, it will most likely be through their IM accounts.
